Take Action Now! Your response needed to make NC State cancer-free
CCAEJ Newsletter Issue 2024-10 (Letter campaign)
We won’t be quiet about NC State’s cancer problem. University leadership must take every available step to keep us safe on campus now, and provide assistance for the hundreds of people harmed by decades of exposure to PCBs in Poe Hall. Hundreds of people have deeply harmed by the toxic environment in Poe, and many more have felt further betrayed by the University’s obfuscation and lack of empathy as news media, subject matter experts and, most importantly, people diagnosed with life-altering illnesses have spoken out. Your action can force the University to act responsibly.
Woodson, the Cancer Chancellor, must be kept in check by the people
On November 19, 2024, the NC State Campus Community delivered the petition demanding that the University take steps towards true accountability for the health and safety of the people - past, present, and future - who learn, think, work, and play on our campus. Chancellor Randy Woodson responded to the over 1,300 people who signed the petition with a generic, unsympathetic email that did not address any of the petition demands. We have Woodson’s ear, and he’s waiting for us to back down, but we will continue to push until each of our demands is met.
Campus community keeps the pressure on Woodson and NC State
As demonstrated by their handling of the Poe Hall crisis, Chancellor Woodson and NC State University Administration have repeatedly proven that they privilege corporate interests and their own reputations over the health and safety of the members of our NC State Campus Community. Since a whistleblower forced the University to conduct environmental testing in Poe Hall in August 2023 (revealing toxic levels of PCBs in the building), NC State has only complied with limited safety and testing measures after rigorous pressure from the media, teams of lawyers, and the campus community.
We must continue to force this administration to act responsibly. We remain steadfast in our efforts to keep each other safe on campus, and secure financial and medical assistance for the hundreds of people harmed by decades of exposure to PCBs in Poe Hall. Our first critical step is a letter campaign targeting University leadership. Join the campaign now.
